It's tough breaking old bad habits. Maybe one of the hardest things to do. So why, year after year, do you keep trying to quit smoking or lose weight just to fail again? You have failed miserably over and over. Yet still you try again. If at first you don't succeed..............
Congrats for trying. But by now you realize (don't you?) that maybe that isn't enough. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Maybe I (GOD NO!) need some help.
Think about this. It should make sense. You spent years cultivating and reinforcing these bad habits. Probably enjoying them. Very much. You taught yourself to do it. It's in there.
There
are people who have an amazing ability to break bad habits quite
easily. My guess is they really weren't all that bad to begin with. But
the vast majority of us are creatures of habit. Conditioned responses
rule our lives. Until we somehow break the cycle.

Trying to lose weight can be
a very frustrating experience. After all, temptation is all around us,
everywhere we look. And we HAVE to eat, it's not like we can just quit.
As someone who has been very overweight, and still has more to go, I
can totally empathize. I was out of work one time, and had beer
drinking friends that were too. Not exercising much, I drank beer and
ate until one day I saw myself on a family video. I reminded myself of
the Dancing Bear on the old Captain Kangaroo Show. (never heard of it?
o.k., so maybe I'm a little older than you!) Close to a whopping 300
pounds, and looking like it, I decided to do something about it.
I
started alternating between walking (slowly) and lifting weights (not
much). Cut down on salt and upped my water intake. Little things like
drinking 2% milk instead of whole. Big things like laying off of the
beer. And I made myself some recordings to use and did self hypnosis..
Slowly but steadily I lost weight. I dropped about 60 pounds. It wasn't
a walk in the park, but I did it. And it wasn't as hard as I thought it
would be.
That negative thinking will get ya every time. I can't,
I'll try, What if....., What will I do if........ How will I
handle..................? It will stop you right in your tracks.
What's really going on is you're afraid of stepping out of your comfort
zone. IT'S SCARY. Right? Hey, I've been there.
But it wasn't that
scary with hypnosis. Hypnosis calms you right down. Helps you to see
things from a POSITIVE standpoint. It helps you to realize that your
priorities should be to be healthy, not stuffed. To be happy, not hiding
from fears. To look like you want to look, not the way you've become.

We are truly creatures of habit. Once we have repeated that habit over time, good or bad, it stays with us. Sometimes we can beat a bad habit with willpower. Many times we can't.
That's

the old bad tapes" that we created and install new productive ones.
